See Scotland, Ireland and England differently

At McKinlay Kidd, we’re passionate about Scotland, Ireland and England as holiday destinations, and are dedicated to helping independently-minded visitors find the perfect holiday. Recently named Telegraph Travel's ‘Best Specialist Tour Operator 2017’ as well as ‘AITO Tour Operator of the Year 2016’ based on customer reviews, McKinlay Kidd have spent years exploring. We have stayed in, eaten at, driven through, sailed across, and visited everything we recommend so that your holiday experience is as good as it gets.

We offer a range of holidays, from island-hopping and wildlife watching to seafood experiences, classic car hire, and train touring, as well as unique places to stay including castles. Did you know you could go whale-watching off the west coast of Scotland? Or how about experiencing the West Highland Line, regularly voted best railway journey in the world by readers of Wanderlust magazine? If cars are more your style, our exclusive partnerships mean you could hire a classic MGB on an Irish trip or explore the North Coast 500, Scotland’s answer to route 66, in a state-of-the-art Tesla. Our flexible approach means that you can add your own personal touches or contact us for a unique tailor-made proposal, perfect for special holidays, honeymoons and celebratory occasions.

Looking to visit the far-flung islands of Scotland or Ireland? Choose a fly-drive, perfect when time is limited. Land on the white sand beach of Barra airport in the Outer Hebrides, the only location where flight times are subject to tides, or visit the most northerly islands of Orkney and Shetland. In Ireland, little can surpass a road trip along the spectacular Wild Atlantic Way coastal route or exploring the fascinating sites along the Causeway Coast. Head for the north of England to enjoy the beauty of the quieter corners of the Lake District, take a private tour of Hadrian’s Wall or relax on a train journey along the famous Settle to Carlisle line.

Along the way, you’ll stay in carefully-selected and characterful small hotels and guest houses which share our commitment to personal service and attention to detail. And we’ll point you in the right direction to try the local delicacies – from craft beer to Irish whiskey, Bath buns to Scrabster squid. We can organise a day out with a local guide, so you can really get under the skin of the place, and we’ll provide a set of personalised recommendations to help you get off the beaten track and make the most of your precious holiday time.

Celebrating 15 years of operation in 2018, McKinlay Kidd began in true small-business style in the dining room of Heather McKinlay and Robert Kidd’s home, and now employ a team of more than a dozen based at our office in central Glasgow. We started the company because we wanted to help visitors see beyond the landscapes and tourist hotspots of these lands, whether of our birth (Ireland and England) or our current home (Scotland). That is what we mean when we say ‘holidays made differently’.

“I cannot put into words how amazing the holiday was. You pulled out all the stops for us.” -Sadie & Paul, Surrey
