Why we love frozen...

There really is nothing better than a freshly-made meal. So we prepare every single one of our dishes from scratch, and then pop them straight into the freezer to lock in the goodness of the ingredients, the natural way. 

It’s basically like pressing ‘pause’ on a fresh dish that’s packed with nutrients – until you decide to press ‘play’ and reap the benefits, when you’re ready for a feast. 

That way, we know you’ll get to enjoy every single one of our meals at its very best – as though it’s been freshly prepared for you there and then – from your own kitchen.

We freeze every dish as soon as we've made it - so that you can press "play" and experience all the locked-in goodness, whenever you're ready for a feast.

It all started when...

... Ruby, our Leith’s-trained founder, met Milly, her creative co-founder, while working as Head Chef at Finns.
The more the two of them chatted to customers and nattered about their own lives, the more they realised that (however much of a foodie you are) sometimes you just don’t feel like cooking from scratch. And yet you’d still like to eat seriously good, nutritious food.
Why should you have to compromise?

That’s when they cooked up the idea of byRuby. Because imagine, thought Ruby and Milly, if on days like that, you could just open your freezer and discover a library of carefully-prepared meals waiting for you to heat up in a jiffy… No need to plan ahead!

Why did they choose to fill people’s freezers, not their fridges? Because the freezer would immediately lock in the incredible flavours and nutritional goodness of each dish, naturally reducing food waste by keeping their food ‘fresh’ for up to six months.

So, using top ingredients from trusted suppliers they’d worked with in the past, Ruby and Milly started testing and tweaking recipes to create wholesome, all-natural dishes that tasted just as delicious when cooked from frozen. Once they’d nailed the recipes, they started delivering their freshly frozen meals directly to food-loving folk across the UK.
Which brings us to today...

... Ruby still writes all our recipes, preparing everything from our kitchen in west London. We have such fun designing exciting dishes that’ll appeal to every taste, intolerance and craving. You won’t find any unnecessary fat, salt or sugar in our cooking, as we’re out to make balanced meals that are naturally good for you. These are the sorts of dishes we cook for our friends and family – and we’re really excited to be cooking them for you, too.

The finest food is made with seriously special ingredients. That’s why sourcing the best – and getting to know our suppliers – is always a priority for us. We try to buy British wherever we can, and we only cook with sustainable-certified fish and free-range, RSPCA-approved meat. Even though it costs us more.

We cook all our dishes in very small batches, so we only make what we need. What’s more, the freezer preserves our meals the natural way, giving them a shelf life of almost 6 months, so we’re never left with any food waste.

Our founder, Ruby, really is doing all the cooking from her own kitchen. She’s a Leith’s-trained chef, and she’s completely passionate about filling Britain’s freezers with wholesome, homemade meals.

Being responsible and making sure our footprint is as small as possible really matters to us. That’s why we serve our food in biodegradable cardboard trays, and we pack it into eco-friendly packaging which we’d love you to upcycle.

The freezer reduces food waste the natural way. Its job is to ‘press pause’. No dubious preservatives needed. 

Frozen fruit and veggies are often more vitamin-rich than fresh ones. Why? Because they’re frozen as soon as they’re picked – which locks in all their goodness.
